書目紀錄的功能需求

實體(entities)：僅處理書目資料使用者有興趣的關鍵物件(the key objects of interest to users of bibliographic data)，共分為下列三組實體：

第一組實體(Group 1 Entities)：書目紀錄命名或描述有關智性或藝術性的產品

The products of intellectual or artistic endeavour that are named or described in bibliographic records.

Work作品：a distinct intellectual or artistic creation.
Expression內容表達：the intellectual or artistic realization of a work. 一部作品的知識或藝術的實現
Manifestation載體表現：the physical embodiment of an expression of a work. 一部作品的內容表達的物理體現
Item單件：a single exemplar of a manifestation. 一種具體表現的單一樣本

A work may be realized through one or more than one expression. An expression, on the other hand, is the realization of one and only one work. An expression may be embodied in one or more than one manifestation; likewise a manifestation may embody one or more than one expression. A manifestation, in turn, may be exemplified by one or more than one item; but an item may exemplify one and only one manifestation.

第二組實體(Group 2 Entities)：對第一組實體(如：善本書)的智性或藝術性內涵、稽核項、傳播、典藏負責任的實體，Corporate body團體：an organization or group of individuals and/or organizations. 一個組織或一群個人和/或組織 (包含：組織、具有特定識別名稱的團體機構)
例如：Symphony Orchestra交響樂團

一個組織或由一群人以特定名稱來辨識的組織，成為運作的單位。

第二組實體與第一組實體之間的"責任"關係：

A work may be created by one or more than one person and/or one or more than one corporate body.
Conversely, a person or a corporate body may create one or more than one work.
An expression may be realized by one or more than one person and/or corporate body;
and a person or corporate body may realize one or more than one expression.
A manifestation may be produced by one or more than one person or corporate body;
a person or corporate body may produce one or more than one manifestation.
An item may be owned by one or more than one person and/or corporate body;
a person or corporate body may own one or more than one item.

第三組實體(Group 3 Entities)：作為智性或藝術性主題的一系列附加實體

An additional set of entities that serve as the subjects of intellectual or artistic endeavour.
